Cover Cropping Success

The seedlings quickly popping up all over the farm- despite the cold weather- proves to me that my decision to allow wild clover to cover the growing spaces throughout the Summer rather than succumb to the rigor of U.S. “mow culture” was the right one.

The lot may have looked “untidy” last Summer to the average American, but I knew that not only did the bees relish the clover flowers, but the roots of the clover were hard at work beneath the soil line infusing my beds with nutrients. It didn’t seem logical to me to purchase harmful synthetic fertilizers when I could instead use what Nature provides🤲🏾.

Few things excite me more than seeing little seedlings standing up almost uniformly in the beds🤗- all of that burgeoning nutritious food.

Before long their leaves will be large enough to just touch their neighbors’- creating a canopy to shield the soil’s surface from the sun’s rays as the warmth returns to our side of the planet. Then it will be time to harvest & turn the plants into something even more delicious😋…and that’s where the fun really begins🙃
