Old Pallets Become New Compost Bay System

We did it!

We used some of the free pallets to construct compost bays. Soon the days of purchasing sub-par compost in plastic bags dubiously labeled as organic will be over. In alignment with our vision of being a self-sustaining, low-input farm, Mahaba Farms will be producing our own organic compost made from regional components.

Not only will this be a major cost savings, but I expect better quality food from better quality soil (healthy soil=healthy food). When you have living soil, teeming with all kinds of microorganisms, they make nutrients readily available to your plants & assist in their overall survival when the balance is right. The stale, pre-packaged, plastic wrapped bags of compost offered at big box retail stores could never offer that.

I’ll save the full-on soil science nerd session for the people who have to listen to it (my husband & sister- LOL), but I’ll simply say that to be able to manufacture my own compost is a dream come true.

Husband hard at work manifesting my vision

I had no idea that obtaining my Bachelor degree in Microbiology & Molecular Biology from UCF nearly 20 yrs ago wouldn’t just serve as a stepping stone in my career as a physician, but would be prime foundational knowledge for regenerating the denuded soil of my ancestral land.

I have gone deep into my studies of soil science & I will surely be a lifelong learner. My educational background provides a fundamental advantage & I look forward to sharing my soil science explorations & innovations in the least nerdy way possible😆

  1. Awesome endeavor. Never underestimate the power of source consciousness, especially when it comes to the paths we chose in our past. Particularly in education.
As always, thank you for sharing the abundance that is Mahaba Farm.
