“Trash Trees”

It feels like yesterday I was writing about my Summer intentions. Somehow Summer is now almost over. Time is sure moving; whether we are or not.

My compost piles have been static for months, as it’s too hot outside to be bothered with shoveling that amount of material every week. As the organic matter breaks down, some seeds make their home on the surface of the piles.

I discovered several papaya seedlings standing a couple inches tall on top of the compost pile. They already had true leaves- the leaves that appear after the seed leaves. True leaves are usually shaped like the adult leaves, but on a miniature scale; making the plant easier to identify. They were just begging me to pot them up!

I couldn’t resist these determined papaya plants. I quickly transplanted them into small pots along with a couple scoops of my farm made compost & positioned them into partial shade in my nursery area.

Only 2 weeks later, the papaya trees were MASSIVE (compared to their initial size)!

Soon these volunteer papaya trees that grew from a pile of organic “waste” will be producing tons of delicious fruit🤲🏾.

It sure pays to bring your attention to the abundance that is all around🙏🏾!
