Goodbye Moon

Last week during my pre-dawn commute to the farm, it occurred to me that I should savor this moment.

It would be natural to question what there is to savor about waking up at 3 a.m. to labor in— by most accounts— miserable conditions.

Donning a headlamp to begin tending the land before the sun’s intensity.

Doing my best to protect myself from the sun’s damaging rays in sweat drenched clothes that uncomfortably stick to my body.

Battling & losing against the incessant mosquitoes😖.

Working invisibly on very little sleep in a craft without (societal) esteem.

But that’s when I have to remind myself that my work is never invisible to the ones who truly matter.

The plants & the animals thank me every single time I’m on the land. That is enough.

May I always stand in awe🙏🏾
