If you’ve ever eaten star fruit, you might have been unimpressed. Your experience can be dependent on the star fruit variety & state of ripeness. Star fruit also has a unique flavor that can’t be likened to any other fruit.

Each Summer, star fruit trees all over South Florida reliably pump out pounds & pounds of fruit. Most “experts” recommend only one tree per yard since one tree typically produces more fruit than one family can eat.
Though my star fruit tree remains too small to bear fruit, that didn’t stop me from getting my share of South Florida’s star fruit bounty this Summer.
Between Facebook Marketplace & local fruit stands, it’s been easy to acquire low priced star fruit.

In addition to eating some of the star fruit fresh, I decided this Summer to try drying the fruit as a healthy snack & a great use of the star fruit abundance.

If you don’t like star fruit, try it dried before you write it off. The dehydration process bumps up the star fruit’s natural sweetness, regardless of the variety. Dried star fruit makes an awesome & nutritious snack (high in vitamins A/B/C & fiber)! Check it out before our star fruit season is over.
